The construction of the new “Zum Stutzwinkel” student housing complex in Straubing will provide much-needed housing for students at the TUM Straubing Campus. The project, funded by the State of Bavaria, focuses on sustainable construction methods and innovative structural solutions.

Our firm was responsible for the structural engineering in the areas of masonry, steel, and wood construction, and oversaw the complex structural implementation.

The residential complex offers 85 units in single apartments and shared apartments. Load-bearing structures made of cross-laminated timber and reinforced concrete ensure cost-effective construction, while the steel structure provides additional structural connections. Solid construction was used for the building cores and foundations.

Thanks to a combination of energy-efficient construction, a heat pump, and a solar power system, the building meets high sustainability standards. The exposed timber construction creates a pleasant living environment and helpsreduce CO2 emissions. Now that it is complete, the residence hall offers modern and affordable housing close to campus.
