The Tonko apartment building in Gargellen impressively blends traditional and modern architectural styles. The stone facade and the wooden shingle roof were constructed using solid masonry and blend seamlessly into the alpine surroundings. The material for the facade comes 100% from natural erosion in the Montafon region, as there are no quarries there. It took more than a year to collect the stones by hand from ditches and landslides before the facade was completed entirely by hand in just four months.
Architect Christian Tonko commissioned us to provide structural engineering services and facade consulting, including the development of key design details.
