Structural Engineering
Competitions

The expansion of the Carlo-Schmid-Gymnasium strengthens its connection to the public space and defines clear boundaries with the Mörike School and the Pestalozzi School.
The timber structure, featuring wood-concrete composite floors, remains visible and provides a clear structural framework. A main entrance on the south side leads to the foyer, while a side entrance on the north side leads to the common area. The classrooms are grouped around transparent learning studios, which promote clarity.

Jury’s competition report:
The building integrates harmoniously into the campus layout and leaves room for outdoor landscaping. The southern entrance design reinforces the sequence of spaces. Adjustments are proposed to establish a clear connection to Primus-Tuber-Straße and to improve the foyer’s connection to the east. Overall, the design impresses with its simplicity and high flexibility—a strong competition entry.
