Mozarteum Salzburg Expansion

Structural Engineering

Glass and facade construction

Contemporary, delicate, airy, bright, and elegant, the winning design for the new intermission foyer serves as a confident accent that connects the two wings of the Mozarteum. The building complex on Schwarzstraße is part of the Salzburg Old Town World Heritage Site and is a listed building. The Mozarteum Salzburg Foundation was and remains fully aware of these constraints, which were directly incorporated into the project design: “The winning project fully complies with the parameters set by the Federal Monuments Office and, through its sensitive integration, ensures the integrity of the historic existing buildings that constitute the monument. The new building creates a connection between the two structures using a contemporary design language—a connection that the existing buildings were unable to achieve,” said Eva Hody, head of the Salzburg office of the Federal Monuments Office.
