The renowned Vorarlberg-based architectural firm Marte.Marte won the Europe-wide architectural competition for the master plan of the Rankweil Regional Hospital back in 2016. The master plan is divided into five construction phases. The basic idea behind the master plan is to create a “new center” that serves as the main entrance, providing short access routes to the respective wards, with an underground parking garage directly connected to them. The first construction phase will be carried out from spring 2021 through 2024 and includes the new construction of the adult psychiatry unit (general care ward, emergency and observation ward, forensic unit, day clinic, and therapy facilities), the entrance area with a café and staff room, as well as the demolition of the current Psychiatry I building. The intention is to carry out all construction phases as seamlessly as possible, either consecutively or in parallel. The second construction phase will involve the construction of the underground parking garage and the entrance building, including access facilities (concierge, admissions, outpatient clinic, central coat check and chapel, café, and kiosk); the third construction phase will involve the construction of the new child and adolescent psychiatry unit. The fourth construction phase will involve the construction of the new service building, and the fifth construction phase will involve the construction of the new psychiatric nursing school.
