Vessel of Peace
Steel construction
The “Vessel of Peace” project consists of a large steel chalice; it was conceived by the two German artists Gabriela Seifert and Götz Stöckmann, with structural engineering supervision provided by DI Eugen Schuler (gbd).
The sculpture is located in South Korea at the 38th parallel, near the border with North Korea, and is intended to serve as a reminder of the shared goal of a reunified Korea.
The upper rim of the vessel features an inscription by the Korean poet Don Mee Choi. It is an adaptation of the poem “Sky Similes” from her work *DMZ Colony*.
This project was initiated and coordinated by Urban Topology, a design and research group dedicated to analyzing challenges and opportunities in art, architecture, and urbanism.
